Engineering Capabilities

Medcast has dedicated resources for solidification simulation and engineering methods for ALL new cast designs with the simple goal to principally produce a casting that is:

a) metallurgically sound
b) fit for purpose
c) cost effective
d) ‘Right first time’.

Medcast has very strong views on helping the customer at the conceptual stage and encourages ‘face to face’ or Video Conferencing right at the start with all relevant persons involved to discuss each and every aspect of the component that requires to be investment cast. The benefits gained from this open forum have been significant to our customers in terms of cost reduction and time saving.

Medcast tooling is manufactured at approved, specialist local suppliers on modern CAD software. Tooling is specifically geared for fast, efficient, repeatable and long life injection with no process variance.

Medcast offers full Rapid Prototype (RP) services in the form of rapid prototype tooling and RP Resin or Wax models.

TEMPORARY TOOLING: whereby composite/ silicon/rubber tools are manufactured and ready for injection within a few days upon receiving a CAD model. Once sample castings are produced and the customer is satisfied with the final cast design, hard tooling can be produced quickly with the proven engineering methods.

RP MODELS (Resin Stereolithograpy or Wax Thermojet): Medcast works with several RP model companies that create and supply (rapid delivery) modern forms of products that can be used in the investment cast process. On receipt of a CAD model, Medcast can apply relevant gating and machine stock (if required) very quickly using the Pro-cast simulation and CAD software and then literally have the RP model produced within 48 hours.

Process control equipment is fundamental to Medcast’s success. Medcast has robust systems for first article inspection, departmental sensor humidity and temperature control, equipment validation and chemistry composition which guarantee material conformity with each and every melt. Medcast also operates a 3D measurement machine for full dimensional inspection on wax patterns, tooling, cast samples and production batches.

Texmo Precision Castings (TPC): Medcast has an Indian partner – Texmo Precision Castings – based in Coimbatore, Southern India. This successful company has been in operation since 1992 and has a worldwide customer base, especially in the US and European markets. It is a well-known fact that some types of investment castings (especially high volume, Stainless Steel applications) are sourced from the Far East because of cost pressures and we feel that, should your requirement fit this category, we would work source them from TPC. Of course, we would entirely project manage this on your behalf. Everything from part feasibility, sample manufacture right through to production delivery would be controlled by us while the customer benefits from lower cost castings. Furthermore, you may be looking for dual supply with respect to risk management, and therefore tools can be run at both foundries which will help in times of unexpected high demand of cast requirements.
